Niagara Parks’ Apprentice Cooks Scholarship Fundraiser a Huge Success
Queenston, ON – The Niagara Parks Commission (NPC) is proud to host the largest Cooks Apprenticeship Program in Ontario. Sixteen of these talented apprentices, in partnership with NPC’s seven chefs hosted the second annual Apprentice Cooks and Chefs Showcase Dinner on October 25, 2007, at Queenston Heights Restaurant. Profits from tickets sales will support The Niagara Parks Apprentice Cooks Scholarship Fund to be awarded to a full-time student enrolled in the Cooks Apprenticeship Program at one of NPC’s properties.
The six-course dinner was created and prepared in partnership by The Niagara Parks Commission’s chefs and apprentice cooks, featuring VQA wine pairings presented by seven local wineries that are also featured in the award-winning Best of Niagara VQA Wine Collection. “The evening has been made memorable thanks to the participation of our local wine partners as well as through our growing partnership with Niagara College’s Hospitality and Tourism Program,” stated Jim Williams, Chair of The Niagara Parks Commission during his closing remarks of the dinner. “The students are the true stars of the evening,” boasted Executive Chef Paul Pennock of Niagara Parks, as he introduced each of the talent that participated in the evening. Chef Paul expressed his gratitude to the full house for the support of his program and his beaming students.
Plans for the Third Annual Apprentice Cooks and Chefs Showcase Dinner are already underway and will tentatively be held Thursday, October 23, 2008.
