Niagara Parks Announces Improvements to Public Access Boat Launch Dock
Niagara Falls, ON – The Niagara Parks Commission (NPC) is pleased to inform the public and the local boating community that the launch ramp and dock located just north of Ussher’s Creek has been refurbished and is now easy and safe to use. Toward the south end of the Niagara Parkway, this launch ramp provides year-round access to the upper Niagara River, free of charge to its users.
“This boat launch ramp offers convenience and safety to boaters. It is also vital to the efforts of police and emergency services in their roles of search, recovery and rescue as well as in river and island management. For instance, the police have been able to use this ramp in its present ongoing recovery efforts of the missing divers from the Welland River,” stated NPC Chairman Jim Williams.
This investment is just part of $16-$18M spent annually by NPC on public services, which are offered free of charge to its residents and visitors. This includes investments in over 1,700 hectares of parklands and gardens, its historic sites, the Niagara Parkway, the Niagara River Recreation Trail and various community events and causes which it supports throughout the year. NPC does so all without the support of any taxpayer dollars. No other commercial enterprise in the region provides this level of public investment back into the community.
Niagara Parks operates North America’s most completely maintained Parks system, with 1,720 hectares (4,250 acres) of Parkland and 56 kilometres of roads and recreational trails. It is, in fact, a city within cities; operating, controlling and maintaining its own police force, road maintenance, snow removal and transportation system and it has done so without the support of any ratepayer since 1885.
