Niagara Parks Grower Brings Home Top Honours at Niagara Orchid Show
Niagara Falls, ON – The Niagara Parks Commission’s (NPC) Floral Showhouse (formerly known as the Greenhouse) is proud to announce that Wayne Hoeschle, Niagara Parks Greenhouse Grower and Tropical Display Specialist, has once again won top honours for his orchids displayed at this month’s Niagara Orchid Show.
The Orchid Society of America awarded Hoeschle his second Certificate of Cultural Merit (CCM), which recognizes exceptional growers rather than exceptional flowers. A CCM is given to a grower who exhibits a particularly well-grown specimen plant with lots of flowers. Wayne Hoeschle did just this – the award was presented to him for one of his meticulously cared for plants, which had literally hundreds of blooms on it, close to 600 in fact! Hoeschle was also awarded this honour in February 2007, for another specimen he displayed. Once awarded a CCM, the grower has the opportunity to name the plant. In both cases Wayne has chosen ‘Mary’, named after a close friend. Along with the coveted CCM, Hoeschle came away from the show with 10 awards in total.
Several of Wayne Hoeschle’s award-winning Orchid Show blooms are currently on display at the Floral Showhouse, where plants from around the world are set among waterfalls and pools with turtles, goldfish and the over 70 free flying tropical songbirds. As the weather gets cooler, NPC encourages all to come and experience the tropical indoor floral displays. The Niagara Parks Floral Showhouse is FREE for all visitors and is open daily from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Hours will be extended for the month of December during the Festival of Lights and its annual Christmas Poinsettia display (9:30 a.m. -7:30 p.m. daily). For more details, please call before your visit: (905) 354-1721.
The Floral Showhouse is owned and operated by The Niagara Parks Commission. NPC is an Agency of the Government of Ontario that has preserved and maintained the parklands and attractions surrounding the Falls without tax dollars since 1885.
