Enjoy Mother’s Day Blooms at Niagara Parks

Niagara Falls, ON – The entire Niagara Parkway from McFarland House in Niagara-on-the-Lake to Old Fort Erie is currently in full bloom, featuring tulips and literally millions of daffodils. Bring Mom to Niagara Parks to discover paradise this Mother’s Day at the Niagara Parks Floral Showhouse where you’ll find gorgeous blooms all year. The seasonal specialty just in time for Mother’s Day is the Hydrangea display with their gigantic spheres of spring colour. Among this year’s annual features are hanging baskets – some over five feet wide, overflowing with colourful Hydrangeas. In addition, forced Foxglove and Delphinium will complete the spectacular display of blues, pinks and white.

Flying through the warm and inviting Floral Showhouse are dozens of tropical birds whose beautiful songs compliment this lush environment. Outside the Showhouse is the Artists’ Garden, where narcissus (daffodils), tulips and other spring bulbs are in full bloom. They will remind you how Niagara Falls earned the title of Daffodil Capital of North America! The enchanting walk along the garden with its fountain and pool is a cherished secret to visitors of the Niagara Parks Floral Showhouse.

Heading north on the Niagara Parkway to the Niagara Parks Botanical Gardens and School of Horticulture, take Mom for a leisurely stroll through the manicured grounds and see the gorgeous early blooms of the season. Popular favourites such as tulips and daffodils are in abundance and at their peak right now, thanks to warm temperatures early this spring. Other great features to enjoy throughout the gardens include:

  • Rock garden plants - rock cress, smaller bulbs: dwarf tulips and narcissus
  • Perennials - bleeding hearts, Pasque flower, brunnera (i.e. Siberian bugloss)
  • Woodland garden plants - trilliums, merrybells
  • Flowering shrubs - forsythias, azaleas, viburnums, serviceberries, flowering quinces, redbuds
  • Flowering trees - magnolias, later Japanese cherries, flowering dogwoods, crabapples

Further north on the Niagara Parkway toward Queenston, the Floral Clock is also featuring its Spring Viola Show. Six stunning colours of Violas numbering just over 12,000 are in full bloom, complimented by a back drop of pink Cercis canadensis - Eastern Red Bud and pink and purple tulips.

Located just south of the Falls on the Niagara Parkway, the Floral Showhouse is open daily from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with paid parking available on site. Admission to the Floral Showhouse, the Niagara Parks Botanical Gardens and the Floral Clock is free.
