Niagara Falls To Be Lit In Red to Honour Veterans
Niagara Falls, ON – In commemoration of the sacrifice and contributions made by veterans and current service personnel in both Canada and the United States, The Niagara Falls Illumination Board will light the Falls in red as a symbol of remembrance and honour to all who have served and those who paid the ultimate sacrifice.
According to The Niagara Parks Commission Chairman Jim Williams, “Our Board felt there was no better way to honour our soldiers, veterans and those who have fallen, than to illuminate this shared natural wonder in red.” Williams believes that with Remembrance Day falling on a Sunday this year, the evening will provide a greater number of individuals an opportunity to view, pause and reflect on the sacrifices made for our two countries. “With Sunday being a traditional day of worship that tends to bring families together, I believe it befits the message such a memorial lighting will send.”
The world-renowned cataracts will be lit in red on Sunday evening starting at 5:00 p.m. until 11:00 p.m. for the first 15 minutes of every hour as a symbolic reminder of reflection taken at the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month.
Established in 1925, The Niagara Falls Illumination Board the Board is made up of representatives from the City of Niagara Falls Ontario, Ontario Power Generation Inc., the City of Niagara Falls New York, New York State Parks and The Niagara Parks Commission. It is the Illumination Board’s responsibility and mandate to finance and maintain the nightly illumination of both the Horseshoe and American Falls.
