NPC is committed to serving all guests including persons with disabilities while acknowledging existing limits of the current People Mover System. While not yet wheelchair accessible, NPC shall ensure guests who are able to access the People Mover System can do so as easily and equitably as possible.

Accessibility Plan for People Mover/Visitor Transportation System (VTS)

Newly acquired vehicles, in compliance with the Integrated Accessibility Standards as applicable will be in place in June 2012.

Fare Equity for People with Disabilities

Persons with disabilities using the People Mover shall pay the regular fare.

Announcement Procedures
 

All People Mover/ VTS Drivers will make pre-board announcements of route, direction, destination or next major stop.

All People Mover/ VTS Drivers will provide an audible, verbal announcement of next stop(s) while vehicle is on route or in operation.

Boarding Policy

For persons with disabilities able to access the People Mover/ VTS, drivers will ensure adequate time is provided to people with disabilities to safely board, be secured and de-board vehicles and will provide assistance for these activities upon request.

Drivers will ensure a person with a disability using a medical aid or with a service animal is allowed access to a People Mover/ VTS vehicle.

Route Stop Accommodations

Passengers with disabilities who are able to access the People Mover/ VTS will be allowed to board and de-board vehicles at the closest available location that is not an official stop if the official stop is not accessible and the safe location is along the same transit route. 

The location of the non-official boarding and de-boarding point will be determined by the driver but consideration will be given to the preferences of the person with a disability.

Courtesy Seating

Each People Mover/ VTS vehicle has designated courtesy seating areas for people with disabilities. Each courtesy seating area is clearly marked with signage.

Emergency Preparedness and Response

The Niagara Parks Commission is committed to the safety of our guests.  To ensure a safe and enjoyable sightseeing experience each People Mover vehicle is equipped with the following safety equipment and devices:

• A first aid kit;
• A fire extinguisher;
• A fire suppression system;
• Emergency escape hatch;
• Emergency escape windows.

All People Mover drivers and conductors are trained in emergency protocols and evacuation procedures and can assist people with disabilities upon request.
