Romantic Rendezvous

Romancing The Falls

"...I began to feel what it was: but I was in a manner stunned, and unable to comprehend the vastness of the scene. It was not until I came on Table Rock, and looked — Great Heaven, on what a fall of bright-green water! — that it came upon me in its full might and majesty."  Charles Dickens, American Notes, 1842

For more than two hundred years, newlyweds have come to celebrate their love by gazing at the world-renowned spectacle of Niagara Falls.  Jérome Bonaparte, brother of Napoleon, was among the first romantics to bring his young bride here early in the 19th century.  Lovers from around the world have been following his lead ever since!

Whether you’re fresh from the altar or celebrating your golden wedding anniversary, there’s no better place for it than Niagara Falls.

Stroll the walkway that leads past the American and Bridal Veil Falls and end up at the Canadian Horseshoe Falls. Feel the mist on your face and be sure to ask a passerby to take a photo of the two of you together, with that gorgeous background, to remind you of a very special moment.

Wander up Clifton Hill, try your hand a game of skittles, check out a scary haunted house or wax museum (nothing like a good scare to give you an excuse to be cuddly!) or have an ice cream cone.  A romantic weekend is all about sharing, of course!

Add a little extra spice to your rendez-vous with a helicopter flight over the Falls.  Niagara Helicopters specializes in making magical moments for two, hovering in the mist above the churning waters.

One of the best features of a Niagara Falls vacation is accessibility!  Arrive, check into your hotel and toss your car keys on the bureau – you won’t be needing them!  Our friendly city is filled with wonderful hotels, so close to all attractions that you can easily enjoy everything on foot.  If you’d like a really convenient tour, hop on the Peoplemover – a bus that stops at all major tourist sites along the Niagara Parkway and offers an all-day, all-inclusive price that includes as many trips as you like!

Perhaps the greatest challenge involved in planning an amorous Niagara getaway lies in making your hotel selection.  There are so many just waiting to roll out the romantic red carpet!

The Embassy Suites by Hilton, Niagara Falls, located beside the Niagara Fallsview Casino is a great possibility. A short stroll will take you to the Maid of the Mist for an eye-popping view of the Horseshoe Falls.  With not only in-room fireplaces and whirlpool baths, the Niagara Fallsview Plaza Hotel is just 100 yards from the Falls – it doesn’t get any closer than that!  Because a glorious view is a big part of the Niagara Falls romance, lovers flock to the 21-storey Oakes Hotel.  With stunning walls of glass and spacious observation decks, Oakes Hotel offers some of the best views of Niagara Falls that you’ll find anywhere in the peninsula.

Looking for serious comfort and convenience?  The Falls Plaza Hotel offers not only whirlpool suites but also a free shuttle service to the Fallsview Casino, the Falls themselves and all the most popular attractions.  The Best Western Fallsview, located in the very centre of all the action, still offers its guests the romance of being able to stroll through the quiet beauty of nearby Queen Victoria Park.

Napoleon’s brother certainly didn’t enjoy the luxurious hotels available to today’s honeymoon couples, and he and his bride weren’t able to try their luck at a casino either, but the element that drew that happy young couple to celebrate their marriage in Niagara hasn’t changed a bit.  The Falls are still, without doubt, the most romantic sight in the world!
