Gateman Milloy Inc.


Purpose
The purpose of the Gateman-Milloy Inc. Bursary is to provide funds to enhance the educational experience of third year students in good standing at The Niagara Parks Commission School of Horticulture who are committed to excellence and apply for additional certification that further validates their skills and knowledge.
Approved Certifications
The approved certifications that qualify for this Bursary are:
Certified Horticultural Technician (CHT) Landscape Ontario and Canadian Nursery Landscape Association
Certified Tree Worker/Climber Specialist I.S.A.
Certified Arborist I.S.A.
Additional certifications, as deemed appropriate by the Superintendent of the School of Horticulture may be available, dependent upon approval of the sponsor, Gateman-Milloy, and the Alumni Association of the Niagara Parks Commission School of Horticulture Foundation (herein after referred to as the Alumni Foundation) .
Bursary
The total collective amount granted for the total number of applicants for the Gateman-Milloy Inc. Bursary shall be $ 4,000.00 each calendar year.
Eligible Applicants
Any second or third year student in good standing enrolled in The Niagara Parks Commission School of Horticulture three-year Ornamental Horticulture Diploma Program who qualifies and is committed to excellence and applies, according to the Student Qualification Requirements, for the approved certifications.
Student Qualification Requirements
The student must be a second or third year student in good standing enrolled in the School of Horticulture three-year diploma program in order to apply for this Bursary.
Second year students qualify to challenge the Certified Tree Worker/Climber Specialist
Third year students qualify to challenge the: Certified Horticultural Technician (CHT); Certified Tree Worker/Climber Specialist (if not already certified in second year and has not applied previously for this Bursary), and depending on previous experience, Certified Arborist.
In the event that the certification requires the student to be a member of the respective association/organization to qualify for the student exam rate, then the student is responsible for all membership fees associated and show proof of membership at the time of application.
Student Requirements for Application
Provide documentation to the Superintendent of the School of Horticulture that they qualify to challenge the certification exam.
Completed certification application form.
A cheque for 50% of the exam fee made payable to the respective certification agent.
A personal commitment to excel and achieve the highest standard possible.
Application Deadline
The application deadline will align with the respective deadline of each certification. This deadline will be posted on the scholarship bulletin board in the Lecture Hall and announced to the students as soon as the certification agent confirms the date each year.
Payment of Bursary Funds
Payment will be based on the student rate of the respective certification exam fee.
The Alumni Foundation will pay 50% of the respective certification student exam fee and the student will pay for the 50% balance at the time of application. The student will issue a cheque made payable to the certification agent, and complete the required application form and submit both to the School of Horticulture Secretary, who will administer the registration, by the specific deadline date.
The Alumni Foundation, will reimburse the student 100% of the 50% balance of their payment, upon documentation of successful certification.
Example
Certified Horticultural Technician (CHT) student exam fee = $200.00
Alumni Foundation initial payment = $100.00 (50%, in accordance with the conditions outlined in Student Requirements for Application)
Student payment = $100.00 (50%, in accordance with the conditions outlined in Student Requirements for Application). If the student needs to redo a module, they are responsible for the cost. Only upon successful certification, while the student is still enrolled in the program, will the Alumni Foundation reimburse the student the $100.00 of the student payment.
Disclaimer
The Superintendent of the School of Horticulture, on behalf of the Alumni Foundation, will make all Bursary application preliminary approvals and present the applications to the Alumni Foundation board for final approval.
All decisions are considered final up to the maximum collective total of all bursary funds allowable to $4000.00.
In the event that a student does not achieve a passing grade on the respective certification exam (exact mark dependent on the requirements of each certification), the student will receive NO reimbursement for the 50% student paid balance and the student will be responsible for any and all fees to retake the exam.
Bursary funds payable to each student in excess of $500.00 are considered taxable.
The student is responsible to maintain membership and/or certification on their own accord for each of the certifications, the majority of which will occur after graduation.
Any student applicant who withdraws from the program forfeits 100% of the Bursary, which will be deducted from their Bookshop Fund. In the event that the funds are in excess of the Bookshop balance, the funds will then be deducted from the students entrance deposit of $200.00 and the student will be billed for the balance. These funds will be directed back to the into the Gateman- Milloy Inc. Bursary fund, managed by the Alumni Foundation.
