Purpose
• To provide financial assistance to students who successfully apply to The Niagara Parks Commission School of Horticulture three-year Ornamental Horticulture Diploma Program. 

Scholarships
• Six $1,000.00 Entrance Scholarships will be awarded to qualified applicants each year. 
• Each $1,000.00 Entrance Scholarship will directly contribute to the first year of tuition.  The balance over and above tuition will contribute to books and supplies.
• The total collective amount granted for the total number of successful students for this scholarship shall be $6,000.00 each year.

Eligible Applicants
• Any qualified student applicant who is in good academic standing and has diversified practical experience (refer to Admission Policies at www.schoolofhorticulture.com) and who is a graduate of a high school, college or university, submitting an application for enrollment to the School of Horticulture three year Ornamental Horticulture Diploma Program by June 30th.

Application Requirements
• *Resume outlining academic and practical horticulture experience.
• *Official high school, college and/or university transcript. 
• * Minimum of 2 references - one academic, one work related, preferably from a horticulture employer.
• Completed Entrance Scholarship Application Form.
(* all documents are mandatory requirements for The Niagara Parks Commission School of Horticulture enrollment application.)

Application Deadline   June 30th for school year starting March following year.

Application Requirements
All students applying for this scholarship must submit the Entrance Scholarship Application Form with their application to the Niagara Parks Commission School of Horticulture on or before June 30th for enrollment into the program for the following March for consideration.

Payment of Scholarship
Payment of the $1000.00 scholarship will be made directly to the student and will be available to the student at The Niagara Parks Commission School of Horticulture office for the first day of commencement, upon sign-in on the Monday of the third week of March.

The scholarship will directly contribute to the first year tuition and the balance over and above will contribute to books and supplies.  This process will be administered by the School of Horticulture Secretary and the student.

Decision Process
The Niagara Parks Commission School of Horticulture Student Selection Committee, comprised of the Superintendent and two Instructors, will review the applications and rank the applicants based on academic standing, practical experience, performance on the entrance interview and written test. 

The student applicant responses on the ENTRANCE SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION will be reviewed by the Entrance Scholarship Committee of the Alumni Association of the Niagara Parks Commission School of Horticulture Foundation which is comprised of quorum of the board, and will take into consideration the decision of The Niagara Parks Commission School of Horticulture Student Selection Committee.

The Alumni Association of The Niagara Parks Commission School of Horticulture Foundation Entrance Scholarship Committee, based on all required documentation, will make the final decision on the Entrance Scholarship.

The decision of the Alumni Association of the Niagara Parks Commission School of Horticulture Foundation Entrance Scholarship Committee is final.

Entrance Scholarship Application

Submit a separate typed letter entitled ENTRANCE  SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION and respond to the four questions below.  Use these questions as subtitles in your response in the letter to a maximum of four pages (use arial font 12 and double space.) 
 
1. Why do you want to pursue a career in horticulture?

2. What contributions have you made to the horticulture industry?

3. Why do you want to attend the School of Horticulture?

4. What are your interests beyond horticulture?

Submit the completed ENTRANCE  SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION as a separate inclusion to the required documentation for application to the Niagara Parks Commission School of Horticulture  on/or  before June 30th.  See website www.schoolhorticulture.com  for application details.  

Presentation of Scholarship
A letter of congratulations will be sent confirming the decision of the Alumni Association of the Niagara Parks Commission School of Horticulture Foundation Entrance Scholarship Committee to student by September 1st. 

A list of students successfully achieving this scholarship will be forwarded to the sponsor Gateman-Milloy Inc, and will include an onsite visit to their head office.
The successful student will be presented an Entrance Scholarship Certificate the Annual Alumni Educational Conference of the Alumni Association of the School of Horticulture.

Disclaimer
The successful student will still be required to pay the $200.00 deposit due November 1st to confirm their enrollment into the program.

All decisions are considered final up to the maximum collective total of all scholarship funds allowable to $6000.00.

Bursary funds payable to each student in excess of $500.00 are considered taxable.

Any student withdrawing from the program before commencement in March completely forfeits this scholarship, and the scholarship will be awarded to the next qualified applicant.

Any student who withdraws from the program after commencement in March forfeits the scholarship on a prorated basis with the balance of funds being redirected back to the Alumni Foundation Gateman-Milloy Inc. Entrance Scholarship Fund.
