The Residence is the property of The Niagara Parks Commission. Meals are provided in the Residence kitchen, which is also available for the student's use for meal preparation on weekends. Cooking, including electric kettles and coffee makers is prohibited in private and semi-private rooms. Each room is supplied with a phone jack, desk, lamp, closet, chest of drawers and bed.
Laundry facilities, a lounge area with a television and VCR , and lockers for work attire are available in Residence. Lockers, accessible during work hours, are located in the tool barn for the storage of work tools. Free student parking is available in the designated student parking lot.
Students are solely responsible for adhering to the School of Horticulture Residence Regulations, which includes, but is not limited to:
1. Adhering to the NPC Safety Policy (such as, but not limited to: no flammables, tampering with electrical services or fire safety devices; no pets (other than fish); firearms or other weapons are forbidden on NPC property)
2. Respecting the privacy and rights of others living in Residence.
3. The security of personal possessions in their rooms and assigned lockers.
4. Maintaining their private or semi-private rooms in a clean and tidy order without permanently altering or damaging walls, floors, doors, woodwork or removing furniture.
5. Respecting the fact that the consumption and possession of alcoholic beverages is forbidden in Residence, other NPC buildings and on the grounds of the Botanical Gardens, except with special permission for pre-authorized events.
6. Observing quiet study hours with the use of stereos on low volume or with head phones. Stereos, telephones and personal computer equipment are the only additional electrical equipment allowed in private and semi-private rooms. Any additional electrical equipment will require the permission of the Botanical Gardens Superintendent.
7. Supplying and laundering their own bedding and clothes. Collectively the students, along with the Student Residence Proctor, Student Assistant Proctor and Residence and Kitchen Staff, ensure that all students adhere to and respect the Residence Regulations. Any infraction of the rules governing Residence living will be dealt with by the Student Residence Proctor, Student Assistant Proctor and Residence and Kitchen Staff, and depending on the severity, by the Superintendents of the School of Horticulture and Botanical Gardens. During orientation the students will be given a copy of the School of Horticulture Student Residence Regulations and will receive an information session by the Student Residence Proctor or Student Assistant Proctor. It is the incoming student’s responsibility to contact the School Superintendent prior to entering the Program for clarification of any of the above regulations or before signing the Residence Contract after the Residence orientation. The Residence and meals are included in tuition and are considered a taxable benefit.
