Discover Victorian Christmas Charm at McFarland House

Niagara-on-the-Lake, ON – Enjoy the Christmas season in lush Victorian style at historic McFarland House. On Friday, December 5 and Saturday, December 5, McFarland House is to be a proud participant in this season’s Rotary Holiday House Tour, the largest fundraiser of the year for Rotary, as it seeks to raise funds for organizations such as the Red Roof Retreat and Doctors Without Borders. The Niagara Parks Commission’s own annual McFarland Christmas Open House will then take place on Sunday, December 7 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with costumed heritage staff ready to welcome those looking to enjoy the festive feel and charm of a Victorian Christmas.

All of the Christmas decorations at McFarland House are lovingly produced and arranged by the Garden Club of Niagara, using natural garden materials reflecting the period holiday decor. Many of the natural plant materials are cultivated at McFarland House as well, which is also maintained year round by the Garden Club. McFarland House is located at 15927 Niagara Parkway, in Niagara-on-the-Lake. Admission on Sunday, December 2 is $4.50 per person, and light refreshments will be available on site. The historic Georgian structure now known as McFarland House, was the home of John McFarland and his descendants for some 140 years and played a role during the War of 1812, serving as a headquarters and hospital for both the British and American armies. Built in 1800, McFarland House is one of the oldest homes in Niagara-on-the-Lake, as well as the oldest building owned by The Niagara Parks Commission. Restored in 1959, the site is furnished in the Empire style and portrays life in Niagara between 1800 and 1830. The Niagara Parks Commission is an agency of the Government of Ontario, and has preserved and maintained the parklands and attractions surrounding the Falls and lands along the Niagara River Corridor without taxpayer support since 1885.
