Table Rock Redevelopment Project Begins
Niagara Falls, ON Canada – Site work for the Table Rock Redevelopment Project has officially begun at The Niagara Parks Commission’s (NPC) Table Rock Point. To help commemorate the event, NPC Chairman Jim Williams was joined by Minister of Tourism Jim Bradley, Niagara Falls M.P.P Kim Craitor, Charter Building Company President Don Ward and Niagara Falls Mayor Ted Salci, as they placed shovels in the ground to mark the beginning of this $32 million undertaking.
Table Rock House represents one of Niagara Parks’ most important venues, as it is the facility where close to 6 million visitors gather each year to witness the beauty and power of Niagara Falls. The phased renovations planned for Table Rock have been designed to enhance the visitor experience of Niagara. In fact, according to NPC Chairman Jim Williams, “our changes are intended to celebrate our visitors’ arrival at this most special place. From landscaped gardens and covered walkways to a redeveloped upper level offering improved year-round interpretation, orientation and entertainment options, Table Rock is to be transformed into an experience befitting the incredible power of this location.”
Further renovations to the upper levels of Table Rock will include enhancements to its restaurant, second floor retail space, an indoor public viewing gallery, as well as a new elevated pedestrian crossing intended to enhance the year-round accessibility and safety of visitors entering the facility.
Charter Building Company of St. Catharines, Ontario, the selected general contractor for the project will continue with its renovations throughout the summer, with plans in place so as not to disrupt tourism season. Construction at Table Rock Restaurant is to begin in the fall, with a grand re-opening planned for May 2008. All other operations at Table Rock House will remain open as normal, with minimal to no disruption for the visiting public.
Employing 1,488 seasonal and 297 year-round staff, The Niagara Parks Commission is an Operational Enterprise Agency of the Ministry of Tourism. NPC’s mission is to preserve and enhance the natural beauty of the Falls and the Niagara River corridor for the enjoyment of visitors, all while maintaining financial self-sufficiency.
