About the Niagara Parks Power Station

For over 100 years, the “Canadian Niagara Power Company Generating Station” harnessed the powerful energy of the Horseshoe Falls and turned it into a great source of electricity for communities in Western New York and Southern Ontario.

In 2021, after lying dormant for over 15 years, the doors to reimagined Niagara Parks Power Station reopened to offer visitors an in-depth look inside. It is the only fully intact, decommissioned hydroelectric power plant of its era in the world.

Repurposed artifacts, interpretive exhibits and interactive installations offer a first-hand look at how this hydropower pioneer was constructed without electricity, and how it harnessed the power of water to generate electricity for over a century.
