Calling All Artists

Niagara Parks is excited to offer a unique opportunity to become a permanent part of the landscape and cultural fabric of the Niagara Region at one of its most beautiful and frequently visited locations.

We invite professional artists to submit a proposal for the design, fabrication and installation of permanent public artwork at Niagara Parks Botanical Gardens that celebrates and embodies the spirit of the people of Niagara from our original First Nations inhabitants to today’s newcomers, our shared history and significant contribution to Ontario and Canada. The professional commissioned piece will become the launch of Niagara Parks’ public art strategy developed rooting new cultural exhibits within the Park.

The inspiration/theme of the art will recognize and celebrate ourselves as citizens of Ontario. Prompting viewers’ delight, the piece will provoke ideas related to nature and geology, diversity of social identities and yes, of course, the 150 years of the province and country. Located at the entrance plaza to Niagara Parks Botanical Gardens, the artwork will connect with the location and Niagara Parks’ identity in a powerful and engaging way.

The winning professional submission will be commissioned to create the permanent outdoor art piece for project unveiling in the fall of 2017 at Rooted in the Garden.
