Repairs & Maintenance

As part of its capital improvements program, Niagara Parks is continuously investing in infrastructure along the 56-kilometre Niagara River corridor and at its sites and attractions. These upgrades aim to enhance travel convenience and create enjoyable experiences for locals and visitors alike.

As a self-funded agency of the Government of Ontario, Niagara Parks reinvests its revenue to fulfil its mandate of preserving and promoting the natural and cultural heritage of the Niagara River Corridor. This includes ongoing maintenance and improvements across all its properties.

Below is a list of upcoming and ongoing construction and maintenance projects. Please note that these projects are weather-dependent, and schedules may change accordingly.

Public Notices

  • September 8, 2025 -​​ Temporary Road Closures Planned for Niagara Falls Barrelman Triathlon


    • Niagara Parks welcomes athletes competing in the annual Niagara Falls Barrelman Triathlon

    • Temporary road closures will be in place from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday, September 14


    Fort Erie and Niagara Falls, ON –Niagara Parks is proud to host the final portion of the annual Niagara Falls Barrelman Triathlon, with Kingsbridge Park serving as the official finish line on Sunday, September 14.


    To ensure the safety of both competitors and the public, temporary road closures will be in place.


    Traffic Considerations

    From 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

    • There will be a single southbound lane closure of the Niagara Parkway from north of Burning Springs Hill to Upper Rapids Boulevard.

    • There will be a full closure of the Niagara Parkway from Upper Rapids Boulevard, south to the Portage Road intersection at Macklem Street.

    • Access to Dufferin Islands, including access via Burning Springs Hill at Portage Road, will be closed to all vehicular traffic that day.


    From 8:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

    • The Niagara Parkway will also be fully closed from Bridgewater Street to Townline Road. The road will reopen after the last participant passes, by 1:30 p.m. at the latest.

    • Bridgewater Street will be closed to the public to facilitate the event, with access provided for residents. Full access will resume after the last participant passes, by 1:30 p.m. at the latest.


    Access to the public boat launch in Queenston will be temporarily closed during the duration of the improvement work.


    Additional Information

    • There will also be lane closures along Portage Road, including Chippawa’s Weightman Bridge, that may begin as early as 7:00 a.m. and will be fully re-opened by 7:00 p.m.

    • Local residents of Rapids View Drive and Bukator Drive will be provided access during the closure with the assistance of the Niagara Parks Police Service.

    • Additionally, the WEGO bus service, Niagara Parks’ Table Rock Centre, Floral Showhouse, Falls Parking Lot and Fraser Hill overflow parking will all remain open and accessible to visitors.


    Additional road closures within the City of Niagara Falls may be in effect to support this event, causing delays. For updates, please visit niagarafalls.ca.

  • September 5, 2025 -​​ Niagara Parks to Undertake Improvement Project at Queenston Boat Launch


    • The public boat ramp in Queenston will be temporarily closed for two weeks to allow for safety improvements

    • Work on the Queenston boat ramp is set to begin on September 22


    Queenston, ON –Niagara Parks will begin improvement work on the public boat ramp at the lower Niagara River in Queenston on Monday, September 22. The improvements will enhance safety for boaters and the project is expected to take about two weeks, with completion anticipated by Monday, October 6.


    Temporary Closure of Public Boat Launch


    Access to the public boat launch in Queenston will be temporarily closed during the duration of the improvement work.


    Traffic Considerations


    During this period, residents and visitors may experience increased noise levels, dust and other temporary disruptions. Large trucks and construction equipment will frequently enter and exit the work site via Front Street, Princess Street and Dumfries Street.

  • September 4, 2025 -​​ Niagara River Recreation Trail Work in Fort Erie​


    • Plans are in place to replace and realign damaged sections of the popular recreation trail in Fort Erie

    • The trail repairs will begin on Monday, September 8 and the anticipated completion date is Friday, September 26


    Fort Erie, ON –As Niagara Parks continues work to implement its shoreline protection strategy pilot and restoration along the Niagara River breakwall in Fort Erie, construction will now begin to repair damaged sections of the Niagara River Recreation Trail between Old Fort Erie and Mather’s Arch. The work is set to begin on Monday, September 8 and is expected to be completed by Friday, September 26.


    Temporary Trail Closures


    Beginning from Old Fort Erie and continuing north, the Niagara River Recreation Trail will be temporarily closed in sections to accommodate the work, allowing for the trail to remain open to the public as much as possible.


    Traffic Considerations


    Motorists may experience minor delays, increased noise levels and dust due to construction activities. Additionally, large trucks and heavy equipment will frequently enter and exit the work site via the Niagara Parkway.

  • August 25, 2025 - ​​Asphalt Resurfacing at Service Road 63​


    • Road work scheduled August 28 – September 5 in Niagara-on-the-Lake


    Niagara Falls, ON – Through an open procurement process, Walker Construction, has been awarded to carry out the resurfacing of Service Road 63 along the north boulevard of the Niagara Parkway in Niagara-on-the-Lake.


    The construction is scheduled to begin Thursday, August 28 and will take place during daylight hours, from approximately 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday to Friday. The anticipated completion date for the project is Friday, September 5.



    Special Considerations for Visitors


    Service Road 63, the Niagara Parkway and Niagara River Recreation Trail will remain open during the construction. However, please be aware that trucks will be frequently turning in and out of the site.


    To ensure safety in the construction zone, there may be temporary traffic delays or lane diversions. During construction, those in the vicinity may also experience dust, loud noise and other inconveniences.

  • August 18, 2025 - Coastal Wetland Project at Black Creek and Boyer’s Creek


    • Project partnership between the Niagara Parks Commission and Parks Canada to install two new coastal wetland fish habitats along the upper Niagara River

    • Work set to begin at Black Creek and Boyer’s Creek, completion by November


    Niagara Falls, ON – Niagara Parks, working in collaboration with Parks Canada, will install two coastal wetland fish habitats at Black Creek in Fort Erie and Boyer’s Creek in Niagara Falls. Construction will begin in early September, with tree staging already underway. Work at both sites is expected to be completed by November 1, 2025.


    Historically, over 75% of coastal wetlands along the Canadian side of the Niagara River have been lost, significantly impacting local fish populations. The goal of this joint project is to improve fish populations and biodiversity in the Niagara River by anchoring logs into the riverbed. The habitat structures, made from repurposed large rocks and woody debris from downed trees, will improve the nearshore environment while maintaining water levels and access to local creeks and shorelines.


    This project builds upon previous work completed by Niagara Parks, with seven other coastal habitat sites successfully established along the upper Niagara River to date. This important work has resulted in increased fish populations and continues to attract diverse bird species such as terns, egrets and herons.


    Traffic Considerations


    During construction, visitors may encounter log debris on nearby roads and experience occasional minor traffic delays. Access to certain areas and adjacent parking lots may also be temporarily restricted.

  • August 1, 2025 - ​​Asphalt Resurfacing at Service Roads 23 and 30 in Fort Erie​

    Road work scheduled August 5 – August 15 in Fort Erie

    Niagara Falls, ON—Niagara Parks will begin resurfacing Service Roads 23 and 30 along the south boulevard of the Niagara Parkway in Fort Erie on Tuesday, August 5.

    The construction is scheduled during daylight hours, approximately 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday to Friday and will be completed by August 15.

    Special Considerations for Visitors Service Roads 23 and 30, the Niagara Parkway and Niagara River Recreation Trail will remain open during the construction, however, please note that trucks will be turning into/out of the site frequently.

  • July 30, 2025 - Temporary Closure of a Section of the Terrace Trail within the Niagara Glen

    A section of the Terrace Trail, a marked trail located within the Niagara Glen trail network, is closed until further for stair repairs and risk mitigation.

    Niagara Falls, ON—Out of an abundance of caution, Niagara Parks has temporarily closed a section of the Terrace Trail, a well-travelled nature route within the marked trail network in the Niagara Glen.

    The section of the Terrace Trail between the Cobblestone and Trillium Trails (the north entrance to the Terrace Trail to Terrace Trail Marker 6) will remain closed until further notice to allow for necessary repairs to the stair infrastructure and to assess potential safety risks in the area. Safety signage is in place to advise guests of the closure. Guests are reminded to follow all posted signage and trail markers within the Niagara Glen and to avoid any unmarked trails.

    We appreciate the public’s understanding and cooperation as we work to maintain a safe and enjoyable experience for all visitors.

  • July 28, 2025- Temporary Road Closure Scheduled at Dufferin Islands



    Niagara Falls, ON—Work crews will mobilize to Dufferin Islands Nature Area in Niagara Falls on Monday, July 28 and Wednesday, July 30, daily from 7:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. for electrical infrastructure work.

    Traffic Considerations

    Please note that motorists will not have access to the main entrance to Dufferin Islands via the southbound Niagara Parkway during this time; however, access to parking and trails will remain open and accessible via Burning Springs Hill at Portage Road. The park exit located at the Niagara Parkway will remain open each day.

    The interior walking trails and pedestrian bridges will remain open during this project, allowing foot traffic to continue moving through the area. While the road closure is in effect, guests are asked to take caution and avoid entering the designated work zone.

  • July 24, 2025 - ​​Erosion Protection at Niagara Parks Boat Launches​


    • Erosion control measures to be taken at Netherby Road and Anger Avenue boat launches


    Fort Erie, ON –Rankin Construction was awarded a contract through an open procurement process to implement erosion control measures at two public boat launches for Niagara Parks. The two boat launches are along the Niagara Parkway, specifically at Netherby Road and Anger Avenue.


    Netherby Boat Launch


    Work at the Netherby Boat Launch is scheduled to be completed on August 5. Public access will remain available throughout the day.


    Anger Avenue Boat Launch


    Work at the Anger Avenue Boat Launch will commence on August 7 and is expected to be completed by August 8. During this period, there will be brief restrictions to public access.

    Please expect temporary disruptions, including dust and noise. Niagara Parks will take steps to minimize impacts and maintain access to its properties. We appreciate your cooperation during this critical project.

  • July 21, 2025 - Construction Begins for Redevelopment of Toronto Power Generating Station


    • Toronto Power Hotel Inc. begins preliminary construction work for the redevelopment of the Toronto Power Generating Station

    • Lane restrictions and trail closures required to support construction


    Niagara Falls, ON – Through a public-private partnership with Niagara Parks, Toronto Power Hotel Inc. has begun preliminary work and site preparation for the redevelopment of the Toronto Power Generating Station, with contractor Rankin Construction set to mobilize on July 28, 2025.

    As of July 28, construction crews will begin the process of building a cofferdam within the Niagara River to facilitate access to the east side of the building. A cofferdam is a temporary enclosure built within a body of water to ensure a dry and safe environment for construction work. Working with the Department of Fisheries and Oceans, a window of time to build the infrastructure was provided to ensure minimal disruption to fish species in the Niagara River.

    During this period, a full-time lane reduction of the eastern north bound lane will be in place and the pedestrian pathways to the north and south of the building will be closed. A pedestrian detour around the closure is in place, with crosswalks available near Dufferin Islands and at Fraser Hill to access the Niagara River Recreation Trail on the opposite side of the Niagara Parkway.

    The redevelopment of the historic power station represents a significant private-sector investment by Toronto Power Hotel Inc. to transform the site into a brand-new, world-class guest experience, including Niagara Falls’ first five-star accommodation.

  • July 3, 2025 - Fort Erie Shoreline Protection Pilot Project to Begin


    • Next phase of Fort Erie Breakwall repairs to begin on July 4

    • Temporary closure of Niagara River Recreation Trail adjacent to Mather’s Circle


    Fort Erie, ON – The next phase of repairs to the Fort Erie breakwall will begin on Friday, July 4. This work will focus on a section of the breakwall behind Mather Arch Park, just south of the Peace Bridge and is expected to be completed by late October 2025.

    Over the past several months, Niagara Parks has engaged a coastal engineering team to develop a pilot program aimed at strengthening breakwall and shoreline protection. The goal is to ensure the long-term sustainability of the shoreline, parkland and adjacent trails in the face of increasingly severe weather events, which have caused significant damage in recent years.

    Following an open procurement process, Rankin Construction was awarded the contract to carry out the Niagara Parks Shoreline Protection Pilot Project near Mather Arch Park.

    During construction, residents and visitors may experience dust, loud noise and temporary traffic disruptions.


    Section of Niagara River Recreation Trail to be closed during construction


    Construction fencing will be installed around the work site. For public safety, the section of the Niagara River Recreation Trail within the construction zone will be closed. No pedestrian detour will be available.

  • June 24, 2025 - Road Closures for Ride for Roswell


    • Temporary road closures scheduled for sections of Queen Victoria Park


    Niagara Falls, ON – Niagara Parks is pleased to welcome back the Ride for Roswell, a bi-national cycling event in support of the Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center, on Saturday, June 28.

    To help facilitate the route through Queen Victoria Park, the following temporary road closures will be in place:


    Saturday, June 28


    The Niagara Parkway’s northbound curbside lane (lane closest to the River) between Upper Rapids Boulevard and Table Rock will close from 5 a.m. to 11 a.m. A full closure of all northbound lanes (lanes closest to the River) along the Niagara Parkway from Table Rock to Clifton Hill will be in place from 5 a.m. until 11 a.m. All northbound traffic in this area will be diverted to the southbound lanes, which will operate in an opposing traffic pattern. During this closure, the northbound WEGO bus service will be unable to stop at the Murray Street, Grand View and Clifton Hill pick up and drop off locations.

    Please note that these lane closures may cause some traffic delays.


    About Ride for Roswell

    The Ride for Roswell, which has 9 routes and covers 12 municipalities and two countries, raises funds to support cancer research at the Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center in Buffalo, New York. The Niagara route brings approximately 400 cyclists across the Peace Bridge at Fort Erie; the cyclists then continue north along the Niagara Parkway to cross back into the U.S. via the Rainbow Bridge in Niagara Falls, Ontario.

  • June 4, 2025 - Asphalt Resurfacing at Dufferin Islands


    • Popular nature area to undergo roadway improvements between June 9 to 27


    Niagara Falls, ON – Following the recent completion of asphalt resurfacing along the Niagara Parkway in Queen Victoria Park, work crews will next mobilize on Monday, June 9, to resurface the traffic loop in the Dufferin Islands nature area. Work is expected to be completed by June 27. A second phase of this project will be announced later in the summer, with the planned resurfacing of Burning Springs Hill.


    Traffic Considerations


    Please note that motorists will not have access to Dufferin Islands during this time, including access via Burning Springs Hill, which will be closed at Portage Road. The interior walking trails and pedestrian bridges will remain open, allowing foot traffic to continue moving through the area. While the road closure is in effect, guests are asked to take caution and avoid entering the designated work zone. Visitors may experience minor delays, increased noise levels and dust due to ongoing construction activities. Additionally, large trucks and heavy equipment will be entering and exiting the Dufferin Islands Loop frequently.


    Parking and Access

    Visitors who wish to access the nature area during construction may park at the nearby Rapidsview Parking Lot or Floral Showhouse Parking Lot and either walk or take the WEGO bus to the site.

North Parkway
Tennis and Pickleball Courts at Queenston Heights Park

Niagara Parks has now completed four new pickleball courts alongside four resurfaced tennis courts at Queenston Heights Park.

Central Parks
Niagara Parkway Lane Reduction

Jersey barriers have been installed in the northbound lane of the Niagara Parkway from Murray Street to Clifton Hill. This will expand the pedestrian walkway within this popular area overlooking Niagara Falls, helping to reduce congestion and improve public safety.

South Parkway
Legends on the Niagara

The replacement of the cart path on the Battlefield Course at Legends of the Niagara Golf Course was completed and the course reopened to the public on May 16, 2025.
