Repairs & Maintenance

As part of its capital improvements program, Niagara Parks is continuously investing in infrastructure along the 56-kilometre Niagara River corridor and at its sites and attractions. These upgrades aim to enhance travel convenience and create enjoyable experiences for locals and visitors alike.

As a self-funded agency of the Government of Ontario, Niagara Parks reinvests its revenue to fulfil its mandate of preserving and promoting the natural and cultural heritage of the Niagara River Corridor. This includes ongoing maintenance and improvements across all its properties.

Below is a list of upcoming and ongoing construction and maintenance projects. Please note that these projects are weather-dependent, and schedules may change accordingly.

  • June 4, 2025 - Asphalt Resurfacing at Dufferin Islands


    • Popular nature area to undergo roadway improvements between June 9 to 27


    Niagara Falls, ON – Following the recent completion of asphalt resurfacing along the Niagara Parkway in Queen Victoria Park, work crews will next mobilize on Monday, June 9, to resurface the traffic loop in the Dufferin Islands nature area. Work is expected to be completed by June 27. A second phase of this project will be announced later in the summer, with the planned resurfacing of Burning Springs Hill.


    Traffic Considerations


    Please note that motorists will not have access to Dufferin Islands during this time, including access via Burning Springs Hill, which will be closed at Portage Road. The interior walking trails and pedestrian bridges will remain open, allowing foot traffic to continue moving through the area. While the road closure is in effect, guests are asked to take caution and avoid entering the designated work zone. Visitors may experience minor delays, increased noise levels and dust due to ongoing construction activities. Additionally, large trucks and heavy equipment will be entering and exiting the Dufferin Islands Loop frequently.


    Parking and Access

    Visitors who wish to access the nature area during construction may park at the nearby Rapidsview Parking Lot or Floral Showhouse Parking Lot and either walk or take the WEGO bus to the site.

  • May 20, 2025 - ​​​​Asphalt Resurfacing at Kingsbridge Park​


    • Road work scheduled May 20 – June 13 at popular picnic location in Chippawa


    Niagara Falls, ON – Significant updates to Kingsbridge Park are underway, including curb replacements and resurfacing of the main parking loop. The work began Tuesday, May 20 and is anticipated to be completed by Friday, June 13, 2025.


    Special Considerations for Visitors


    During this period, parking within Kingsbridge Park will remain accessible; however, visitors may experience minor delays, increased noise levels and dust due to ongoing construction activities. Additionally, large trucks and heavy equipment will be entering and exiting the Kingsbridge parking lot frequently via the Niagara Parkway.

    Please also note that access to electric vehicle charging stations may be intermittently unavailable throughout the project.

  • May 14, 2025 - Niagara Parks and City of Niagara Falls Share Holiday Road Closure Plan


    • Niagara Parks, in partnership with the City of Niagara Falls, will implement planned road closures near the Falls to prioritize public safety on holiday weekends

    • Closing the roads to vehicular traffic will provide more space for pedestrians throughout these popular tourism are


    Niagara Falls, ON – Niagara Parks, in partnership with the City of Niagara Falls, will implement planned road closures across key tourism areas near the Falls during holiday weekends that typically bring high volumes of visitation.


    2025 Holiday Road Closure Schedule

    Effective 7 p.m. - 1 a.m.

    Victoria Day Long Weekend:

    Saturday, May 17 and Sunday, May 18


    Canada Day:

    Tuesday, July 1


    Independence Day (U.S.):

    Friday, July 4


    Civic Holiday Long Weekend:

    Traffic Considerations


    The Niagara Parkway between Clifton Hill and Fraser Hill will be closed to all vehicular traffic beginning at 7 p.m., with a full road closure in place by 8 p.m. Clifton Hill from Victoria Avenue to Falls Avenue will also be closed to vehicular traffic during that time. The roads will reopen to traffic by 1 a.m., following the nightly fireworks.

    By closing these roadways to vehicular traffic, pedestrians will have smoother and safer access throughout the core tourism area during holiday celebrations that typically bring higher visitation to Niagara Falls. This will also assist Niagara Parks Police Service and Niagara Regional Police Service in managing the area, as well as providing controlled access for emergency services.

    All road closures will be at the discretion of the Niagara Parks Police Service and Niagara Regional Police Service and timing may be adjusted as required. In the event of inclement weather or lower-than-anticipated visitation levels, closures may be modified or cancelled. Should additional road closures be required based on visitation levels beyond the planned schedule, this will be at the discretion of the Niagara Parks Police Service.



    Parking and Transportation


    All Niagara Parks operations, including parking lots and WEGO bus services, will run as usual throughout each long weekend. The Falls Incline Railway will operate until 1 a.m. to assist guests travelling between Queen Victoria Park and surrounding tourism areas. Guests should anticipate potential service delays or disruptions on routes through the tourist area.

    Guests driving to Niagara Falls are encouraged to take advantage of the many parking lots in the area, especially Niagara Parks’ Rapidsview Parking Lot, which offers $10 parking and a convenient shuttle service to and from Table Rock Centre, also included with the purchase of an Adventure Pass.

    The WEGO Bus Service offers a hop-on, hop-off transportation system that connects all Niagara Parks locations to nearby hotels as well as other tourism areas. To view WEGO schedules, visit niagaraparks.com/wego.

    For those travelling from the GTA, Niagara GO Train Service is available daily, with a connection to WEGO at the Niagara Falls train station. More information is available at niagaraparks.com/go.

  • May 13, 2025 - Replacement of Section of Niagara River Recreation Trail in Niagara-on-the-Lake


    • Pedestrian bridge to be replaced; traffic detour May 22 and 23, 2025


    Niagara-on-the-Lake, ON – Niagara Parks is replacing an aging pedestrian bridge along the Niagara River Recreation Trail, located just south of Line 3 Road in Niagara-on-the-Lake. The work will take place from Thursday, May 22, to Friday, May 23.

    Traffic Detour and Restricted Access to Recreation Trail

    To ensure public safety, a traffic detour will be implemented for through-traffic during the construction period:


    • Northbound traffic will be redirected via Line 6 Road to Concession 1 Road to Line 3 Road and vice versa for southbound traffic.

    • The Niagara River Recreation Trail within the work zone will also be closed, with no pedestrian detour available.


    Dust, loud noises and other inconveniences may occur during this period. Niagara Parks is committed to accommodating area residents and businesses throughout this project. Measures will be taken to minimize disruptions and ensure access to properties within the construction zone.

  • May 6, 2025 - ​​Replacement of Section of Niagara River Recreation Trail in Niagara-on-the-Lake​


    • Popular section of Niagara River Recreation Trail to be replaced, May 12 – June 20

    • Niagara Parkway to remain open, with minimal disruption to traffic


    Niagara-on-the-Lake, ON – Niagara Parks will undertake the removal and replacement of a one-kilometre section of the Niagara River Recreation Trail, near Brown's Point in Niagara-on-the-Lake, between May 12 – June 20, 2025.


    Restriction to Trail Access

    This section of the pathway will be closed to all trail users from May 12 to June 20, 2025. During the construction, which will take place Monday through Friday from approximately 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., those in the vicinity may experience dust, loud noises, and other minor inconveniences.


    The Niagara Parkway will remain open during construction; however, motorists are advised to exercise caution in this area, as trucks will be turning into/out of the site frequently. To ensure the construction zone remains safe, there may be temporary delays and traffic control operations.

  • April 29, 2025 - Crane Work Continues Along Niagara Gorge Wall


    Niagara Falls, ON –To facilitate additional work along the wall of the Niagara Gorge, a crane and fencing will be placed along the parapet wall north of Table Rock Centre. The work is expected to take approximately three to four weeks to complete.



    A section of jersey barriers expanding the pedestrian walkway will be removed on Wednesday, April 30, to allow for the mobilization of a large crane and other required equipment for additional work above the Journey Behind the Falls attraction. There will be no impact to the attraction or any surrounding Niagara Parks operations.

    The work zone has been blocked off with fencing. There will be no disruption to vehicular traffic, and pedestrians are asked to avoid all fenced-off areas.

  • April 28, 2025 - Pump Replacement Scheduled in Queen Victoria Park


    Niagara Falls, ON – The sewage pumps supporting Queen Victoria Park have been slated for replacement by Niagara Parks, scheduled to begin on April 28.

    The project will take approximately one week to complete, with no impact on traffic and without disruption of service to the surrounding businesses and attractions.


    Pedestrian Detours


    • Beginning on Monday, April 28 for approximately one week, a temporary work zone will be created in front of Queen Victoria Place near Murray Street. Visitors are asked to stay clear of the barricaded area and follow the detour signage.

    • This project will not impact vehicular traffic along the Niagara Parkway.


    Guided by the goals and recommendations of the Queen Victoria Park Master Plan (2018), Niagara Parks has been investing in improving the overall experience of visiting Niagara Falls, from infrastructure upgrades to new visitor attractions. By expanding essential services to Queen Victoria Park, Niagara Parks will be better equipped for future growth within the destination. Other benefits to the upgrade include real-time status updates, with backup prepared to avoid any disruptions to service.

  • April 15, 2025 - Resurfacing of Niagara Parkway within Queen Victoria Park


    • Asphalt resurfacing of the Niagara Parkway from Clifton Hill to Fraser Hill scheduled for April 22 – May 9, 2025

    • Project to include installation of additional jersey barriers to expand pedestrian promenade along the Falls


    Niagara Falls, ON – As part of its capital budget for improvements within Queen Victoria Park, Niagara Parks will be undertaking asphalt resurfacing of the Niagara Parkway from Clifton Hill to Fraser Hill. Beginning on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, the project will address both the north and southbound lanes. The projected completion date is Friday, May 9, 2025.

    Traffic Considerations

Traffic will be maintained throughout the area with traffic control operators in place during this time. Motorists should expect temporary delays.

    Expanding the Pedestrian Walkway

    As part of this project and overall plans to improve the public realm within the high traffic area of Queen Victoria Park, Niagara Parks will be installing additional jersey barriers in the northbound lane of the Niagara Parkway (lane closest to the river) from Murray Street to Clifton Hill. The installation of the new jersey barriers will take place from May 13 to 15, 2025, after the resurfacing is complete. This work will expand the pedestrian walkway within this popular area overlooking Niagara Falls, helping to reduce congestion and improve public safety.

  • April 9, 2025 - Annual Rock Scaling Operations Along Gorge Wall


    • Rock scaling operations at Table Rock scheduled for April 9 – 17, 2025

    • Removal of loose rocks and debris to ensure safe operation of the observation decks at Journey Behind the Falls and the Niagara Parks Power Station


    Niagara Falls, ON – Always a sure sign of spring, Niagara Parks will be conducting its annual rock scaling operations along the wall of the Niagara Gorge on the Canadian side of the Horseshoe Falls, from April 9 to 17, weather permitting.


    Temporary Traffic Diversion


    In preparation for this project, on Wednesday, April 9, all northbound traffic along the Niagara Parkway, starting from the Bridge of Flowers pedestrian walkway at Table Rock Centre to the nearby centre median will be diverted to the southbound lane for mobilization of equipment. Traffic delays will be minimal.

    Cranes will be in place in the Table Rock area from April 10 through 17 for work above the Journey Behind the Falls attraction, as well as the Niagara Parks Power Station viewing platform. Visitors are advised to avoid fenced off work zones during this time.


    Background


    Niagara Parks undertakes this activity in the gorge each spring to remove any of the loose rocks and debris that have built up over the winter months, to ensure the safe operations of its attractions within the lower Niagara gorge.

    To complete this work, Niagara Parks staff will be lowered in a cage over the parapet wall into the Niagara Gorge. A large crane operating from the top of the gorge wall will then slowly carry the workers across the face of the wall, some 13 storeys high over the Falls basin. Dressed in helmets and protective gear, workers then remove the loose rocks and debris; a process known as “ice-jacking”.

North Parkway Projects

Tennis and Pickleball Courts at Queenston Heights Park
  • For the first time, Niagara Parks will offer four new pickleball courts alongside four resurfaced tennis courts at Queenston Heights Park. Construction began in September 2024, with the public opening projected for June 2025. Upgrades are currently taking place at the former General Brock snack bar, which will facilitate court operations including rentals and merchandise, while the nearby washrooms are also receiving an update during this time as well.

Central Parks Projects

Exterior Work at Niagara Parks Power Station 

New public washrooms are being built on the west side of the Niagara Parks Power Station, with completion expected by spring 2025.

South Parkway Projects

In 2025, Niagara Parks’ capital projects in the south will include paving sections of the Parkway and service roads, continuing Fort Erie Breakwall restoration work and upgrades at the Niagara Parks Marina.

Legends on the Niagara

The replacements of the Battlefield Course cart path has begun at Legends of the Niagara and is expected to be completed by June 2025.

Fort Erie Breakwall

Niagara Parks is continually making progress in the restoration of its breakwall along the Fort Erie shoreline, with efforts aimed at addressing storm damage and improving safety.
