- Historic bridge replacement project wraps up along south Niagara Parkway in Fort Erie

Niagara Falls, ON – Niagara Parks proudly announces the reopening of the newly replaced Black Creek Bridge to traffic on Friday, April 26. The historic bridge replacement project required an over $3 million investment of Niagara Parks’ earned revenue and is now in the final stages of completion by contractor Rankin Construction.
Originally built in 1911 and later rehabilitated in 1994, the Black Creek Bridge is a stone-faced bridge located along the south Niagara Parkway in Fort Erie that Niagara Parks owns and maintains. As the bridge approached the end of its lifecycle, Niagara Parks prioritized its replacement.
Public consultation was a key element of the project and the final design plan was based on feedback gathered from the community prior to construction. The design of the new bridge aimed to conserve the heritage value of the bridge, while increasing the navigable height for boats, improving alignment and safety, as well as minimizing impacts to viewpoints of the Niagara River and the surrounding environment.
While the road will reopen to traffic in the area beginning on Friday, April 26, 2024, final site remediation work will continue by Rankin Construction without impact to traffic or public access. Following the reopening of bridge, Rankin Construction will replace the temporary railings with new permanent railings, restore surrounding greenspaces, and conduct general cleanup.
