Niagara Parks' Botanical Gardens is located on the scenic Niagara Parkway and the Great Gorge, just a 10 minute drive north of the Falls. This beautiful Garden setting is home to the Butterfly Conservatory and serves as the unique outdoor classroom for students attending the Niagara Parks School of Horticulture.
Established in 1936, you'll enjoy 40 hectares (99 acres) of beautifully maintained gardens, including perennials, rhododendrons, azaleas, a formal parterre garden, shade, herb and vegetable plantings, an aviary as well as our world-famous rose garden featuring over 2,400 roses. Footpaths wind past the Butterfly Conservatory and butterfly garden, ponds and an arboretum featuring one of Canada’s finest collections of ornamental trees and shrubs.
Horticultural excellence is the emphasis of The School of Horticulture and the students are responsible for the maintenance and development of the Botanical Gardens throughout the year.
The Niagara Parks Botanical Gardens are truly an enriching experience for all seasons. Check out our Virtual Tours for a sneak peek of a few of our beautiful views.

SUMMER 2010 PROGRAMMES:
Shrub Pruning
Date: Tuesday, July 6, 2010 6 pm – 9 pm
With so many factors to consider, pruning of shrubs can sometimes be a daunting task. Darrell Bley (Curator of Woody Plants Niagara Parks Botanical Gardens and Instructor at the Niagara Parks School of Horticulture), will help you tackle this fundamental gardening practice with confidence. This seminar will focus on the various types of pruning practices, seasonal pruning cycles, and the response of the various groups of flowering shrubs to seasonal pruning.
Perennials to Make Your Life Easier
Date: Saturday, July 10, 2010, 9 am – 12 pm
Whether you have a wet shady yard or a hot dry one, there are perennials which will thrive in your garden. Perennials can act as groundcovers and smother weeds, complement shrubs in a foundation or entrance planting, and some can even take foot traffic – to replace your front lawn! Lorne Fast (Curator of Collections Niagara Parks Botanical Gardens and Instructor at the Niagara Parks School of Horticulture), will guide you through the Botanical Gardens and show you a diverse selection of lower maintenance perennials that will grow in those challenging areas of your garden.
Sustainable Vegetable Gardens
Date: Saturday, July 24, 2010, 9 am – 12 pm
Learn how to get more out of your vegetable garden while increasing the sustainability of your plot. Charles Hunter (Curator Vegetable, Herb and Rose Gardens Niagara Parks Botanical Gardens and Instructor at the Niagara Parks School of Horticulture), will show you the fundamental methods and techniques used to create and maintain healthy soil with the goal to produce higher vegetable yields.
Summer Rose Maintenance
