National Day for Truth and Reconciliation
Tuesday, September 30, 2025
To honour the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, Niagara Parks invites the public to reflect and learn about the rich history and culture of Indigenous peoples in Niagara through unique opportunities along the Niagara River corridor.
Truth and Reconciliation calls on all Canadians to acknowledge the legacy of residential schools and work toward respectful relationships with Indigenous communities. Niagara has a deep Indigenous heritage, and Niagara Parks is committed to sharing these stories and preserving this history for future generations.
Walk for Truth and Reconciliation
In honour of National Day for Truth and Reconciliation (Orange Shirt Day), students, staff and trustees from Niagara Catholic will march 2.5 kilometres along the Niagara Parkway from the Sandie Bellows Plaza at the Niagara Parks Power Station to Oakes Garden Theatre. At Oakes Garden Theatre, there will be a program featuring Dr. Josh Manitowabi, Assistant Professor of Indigenous History at Brock University, who will share insights on the significance of Truth and Reconciliation and Indigenous History.
The public is welcome to participate and is encouraged to wear orange to honour the legacy of residential school survivors and promote awareness.
Time: Gather at 9:30 a.m. The walk begins at 10:00 a.m.
Location: Sandie Bellows Plaza, Niagara Parks Power Station (7005 Niagara Parkway)

National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day
September 30 marks both Orange Shirt Day and the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation in Canada.
Orange Shirt Day began as a grassroots movement inspired by Phyllis Webstad, a residential school survivor whose story sparked national awareness of the lasting impacts of the residential school system.
Special Falls Illumination
On the evening of September 30, Niagara Falls will be illuminated in orange every hour for 15 minutes beginning at 7:00 p.m., in honour of Orange Shirt Day and the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
