Patterns & Parallels: The Great Imperative to Survive at the Butterfly Conservatory
Beginning August 31, experience Patterns & Parallels: The Great Imperative to Survive, the new photography exhibit by celebrated Canadian astronaut and photographer, Dr. Roberta Bondar that explores the migratory patterns and challenges faced by at-risk bird species.
Patterns and Parallels highlights the impact of climate change and habitat loss on at-risk bird species through striking images captured on the ground, in the air, and even from space, thanks to a partnership with NASA. The exhibit also features interactive elements, offering visitors a deep, visual understanding of the urgency of bird conservation.
Entry to Patterns & Parallel: The Great Imperative to Survive is included with admission to the Butterfly Conservatory. Admission is also included in Niagara Parks’ season passes and bundled attraction packages.
The Importance of Conservation
Patterns & Parallels, part of the Roberta Bondar Foundation’s Space for Birds project, uses photography to raise awareness about the urgent need to protect bird species and their habitats. With over three billion birds lost in Canada and the United States since 1970 due to the impacts of climate change, the exhibit highlights the importance of conservation.
“The diversity and numbers of birds are declining as our changing planet tests their fragility and resilience,” said Dr. Bondar, a strong advocate for migratory birds and their habitats. “People want to understand more, to reverse this alarming trend, and they need stories to bolster their commitment to conservation.”
