Welcome Dr. Bondar to Niagara Parks 

Join us for an inspiring evening with Dr. Roberta Bondar—trailblazing astronaut, the first neurologist in space and acclaimed wildlife photographer—as she presents a captivating lecture on reconnecting people with the natural world and addressing the challenges faced by migrating birds.  

Dr. Bondar’s talk compliments Patterns and Parallels: The Great Imperative to Survive, a new exhibit offering three visual perspectives that spark curiosity and foster a commitment to conserving the essential habitats needed to support the life cycles of extraordinary bird species now on display at the Butterfly Conservatory.  

The evening will take place from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a lecture, followed by a Q&A session, at the School of Horticulture Lecture Hall from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, October 10, 2024. After the lecture, guests are invited to walk over to the Butterfly Conservatory to explore the exhibit with Dr. Bondar from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. She will also be available to sign books, which can be purchased at the retail store. Tickets are $15 per person.

Patterns and Parallels: The Great Imperative to Survive is a visually stunning exhibition curated by Dr. Roberta Bondar. 

 As you move through the gallery, you are drawn into the intimate world of migratory birds such as the Whooping Crane, Lesser Flamingo, and Piping Plover. Dr. Bondar’s collection offers more than just images; it reveals the survival challenges these at-risk species face in their fight for survival. 

QR codes throughout the exhibition enhance the experience by providing access to digital resources like animations, audio commentary from Dr. Bondar and field videos. This interactive exhibition doesn’t just ask you to observe—it encourages you to engage, learn, and reflect on the vital need to protect these species for future generations. 

About Dr. Roberta Bondar

Dr. Roberta Bondar, Canada’s first female astronaut and the world’s first neurologist in space, combines her expertise in science, and passion for photography to reveal Earth’s natural beauty through her art.  Patterns and Parallels, showcases her unique perspective, capturing migratory birds and their habitats from both aerial and surface viewpoints. Bondar’s work reflects her commitment to exploring the intricate connections within our environment, inspiring others through discovery and education.
