- Old Fort Erie is brought to life with battle re-enactments and demonstrations throughout the August long weekend
Fort Erie, ON – Take a journey through time and re-live one of the most important battles of the War of 1812 as Old Fort Erie hosts hundreds of re-enactors from across North America for the annual Siege of Fort Erie weekend on August 3 and 4.
Experience the thunder and chaos of various battles and skirmishes throughout the weekend at Canada’s largest battle re-enactment and take part in opportunities to tour the Fort and military camps for a first-hand look at life during the war.
The Fort opens to the public at 10 a.m. and closes at 5 p.m. both days, with ceremonies and a lantern tour after the Fort closes on Saturday.
Event Highlights
The Siege weekend is packed with activities; various weapons demonstrations, skirmishes, and historical learning experiences will take place throughout the weekend, in addition to the three battle re-enactments. For the full schedule of events, visit niagaraparks.com/siege.
Saturday, August 3
10 a.m. to 5 p.m. – Fort Hours
10 a.m. to 10 p.m. – Welcome Centre Hours
12 noon – Historical Interpretation: Surgery in the War of 1812
Learn about the treatment of war wounds in 1812
2 p.m. – Battle: “Chippawa and Lundy’s Lane”
8 p.m. – Battle: “Drummond’s Night Assault”
Witness the British forces attempt to take the heavily fortified American fort
9 p.m. – Lantern Tour
Witness the effects of the failed British Attack
Sunday, August 4
10 a.m. to 5 p.m. – Fort & Welcome Centre Hours
10:30 a.m. – Memorial Service
12:45 p.m. – Performance by The Drums Crown Forces 1812
1 p.m. – Battle: “The Sortie”
Watch as the American forces attempt to break the siege
2:30 p.m. – Artillery Barrage
