Niagara Falls, ON – Niagara Parks is investing in significant improvements at its flagship attraction, Journey Behind the Falls, to transform the site into a world-class, year-round guest experience. The phased updates will include restoring a historic tunnel to expand the tunnel network, building a brand-new year‑round viewing platform and replacing the existing Rainbow viewing platform.

Phase I

Phase I of the redevelopment introduces a new stabilized, fully accessible tunnel leading to a brand-new heated and covered viewing platform that will expand capacity, reduce congestion and deliver an elevated year-round experience for guests. The project aligns with the province’s new Destination Niagara Strategy by investing in tourism attractions to help double annual visitation to Niagara, extend length of stays in the destination and raise the global profile of Niagara.

On Monday, March 23, crews will mobilize and a crane will be placed just north of Table Rock Centre to facilitate construction within the gorge. The crane will be in place until April 2027.

Phase II

Additionally, the current Rainbow Platform, a key viewing area at Journey Behind the Falls that offers guests the bucket-list worthy experience of standing at the base of the Falls, is nearing the end of its life cycle. Phase II of the redevelopment includes a complete reconstruction of this iconic platform to meet modern safety standards and support a high‑quality visitor experience. The restored tunnel and new secondary viewing platform from Phase I will allow the attraction to remain open during construction on the Rainbow Platform. Phase II is expected to be completed by May 2028.
