Niagara Parks

  • Scheduled maintenance closure at popular attraction from January 5 – February 13, ahead of 30th anniversary celebrations
  • Important information for visitors, including attractions pass substitutions

Niagara Falls, ON – Niagara Parks will undertake annual maintenance at its Butterfly Conservatory, will a full closure of the facility beginning Monday, January 5 and reopening for the Family Day long weekend on Friday, February 13, 2026.

Niagara Parks is a world-class destination, committed to delivering exceptional experiences for visitors. To continue delivering on this mandate, regular attraction maintenance is needed, which requires the temporary closure of facilities.

The maintenance program at the Niagara Parks Butterfly Conservatory is supported by certified trades and horticultural staff, who will conduct behind-the-scene updates throughout the facility, including a full replacement of the netting enclosure, as well as a number of front-facing updates for visitors upon its re-opening in February.

The netting within the Conservatory serves a vital role both as a secondary biocontainment layer and to ensure no non-native butterfly or moth species escape into the surrounding habitat. Staff inspect the netting daily to check for holes or damage and every seven to eight years, the netting is replaced.

Project Highlights include:

  • Replacement of screen netting enclosure within the Conservatory
  • Pruning of trees and shrubs and replanting tropical beds
  • Preparations for new interactive exhibit in the auditorium space
  • Updated wayfinding and interpretive signage
  • Retail store updates
  • Routine maintenance and inspection of major building systems such as the fire system, irrigation system and safety lines.

Substitutions For Pass Holders

During the closure, Niagara Parks Wonder Pass holders will be able to substitute their admission to the Butterfly Conservatory for a visit to the Niagara Parks Floral Showhouse.
