Niagara Falls, ON – Niagara Parks will host two days of public events in recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on September 30. Events will kick-off on September 29 with TREATY: A Reconciliation Revelry. This free public concert held outside the Niagara Parks Power Station will feature an ensemble of renowned and award-winning Indigenous and allied musicians, raising awareness of Indigenous contributions to Canada and their struggle for appropriate acknowledgement. Curated popular song selections will be interspersed with videos of artists, historians, and civic leaders reflecting upon the meaning of truth and reconciliation. Guests are invited to return the following day for National Truth and Reconciliation Day events in the same location.
TREATY: A Reconciliation Revelry, produced and directed by Niagara Parks’ Tim Johnson, Mohawk, Six Nations of the Grand River, will lead guests on a journey of varied experiences through stories and music. The concert will see performances from a diverse line-up including singer-songwriter and blues great Joshua Arden Miller, classic rock band The Ollivanders, Rob Lamothe, Tasheena Doxtator, and others. Following the Thursday night concert, Niagara Parks’ Day of Truth & Reconciliation events will begin on September 30 at 7 a.m. with a traditional sunrise ceremony followed by an hour-long ceremony of story and music about the origins of Orange Shirt Day at 10 a.m. The day will conclude with performances by the Niagara Region Native Center’s Powwow Drummers and Singers and a special orange illumination of Niagara Falls complemented by fireworks at 10 p.m.

- 6 p.m. – TREATY: A Reconciliation Revelry, Niagara Parks Power Station Plaza – Stage: Join Niagara Parks outside the Niagara Parks Power Station for this captivating concert that will provide audiences with historical context for understanding Indigenous experiences and Indigenous realities today.
Day of Truth & Reconciliation Events
September 30, 2022
- 7 a.m. – Sunrise Ceremony, Niagara Parks Power Station Plaza – Stage: A traditional sunrise ceremony will take place at 7:13 a.m., led by Grandmother Jackie Labonte and the lighting of a ceremonial fire by Dave Labbe.
- 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. – Beyond the Orange Shirt Story, Niagara Parks Power Station Plaza – Stage: Honouring the 150,000 children and their families impacted by Indian Residential Schools, this event will share the origins of Orange Shirt Day by Phyllis Webstad and inspire us to collectively move towards cultural understanding and reconciliation marked by this national holiday.
- 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. – Falls Illumination & Fireworks, Queen Victoria Park: Niagara Falls will turn orange hourly for 15-minutes, to mark the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation. A fireworks display will take place at 10 p.m., featuring a special orange finale. Niagara Region Native Center’s Powwow Drummers and Singers will perform throughout the evening.
