Niagara Parks and WildPlay Niagara Falls Officially Open Whirlpool Adventure Course at Thompson Point
Today, on the grounds of Thompson Point, offering breath-taking views of the majestic Niagara Whirlpool Rapids below, The Niagara Parks Commission and WildPlay Niagara Falls officially opened Niagara Parks’ newest outdoor attraction, WildPlay’s Whirlpool Adventure Course.
“I’m excited to welcome the Whirlpool Adventure Course to Niagara – a thrilling new attraction that will give people yet another reason to visit this beautiful area,” stated Eleanor McMahon, Ontario Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport. “This year, we’re celebrating Ontario’s 150th anniversary and innovative attractions like this one are part of what make this province such a great place for visitors and residents alike.”
WildPlay’s new Whirlpool Adventure Course provides an entirely new Niagara Parks experience for those seeking an active, outdoor adventure challenge. According to Janice Thomson, Chair of The Niagara Parks Commission, “WildPlay’s Whirlpool Adventure Course will provide visitors with new ways to interpret and experience the natural beauty of the Niagara Gorge, Niagara Glen and Whirlpool Rapids below. This newest outdoor attraction, combined with the additional investments we are making in facilities such as the Niagara Glen Nature Centre, are a response to the growing popularity of the North Niagara Parkway as a trailhead destination for hikers, cyclists, conservationists, boulderers and anyone seeking an opportunity to connect with nature in their own unique way.”
“WildPlay’s Whirlpool Adventure Course provides people with a unique and captivating adventure experience, allowing them to explore fun and challenging aerial obstacles and ziplines from an unforgettable perspective, securely suspended high above the Niagara Gorge and the famous Niagara Whirlpool,” stated Tom Benson, CEO of WildPlay Element Parks. “Our most exciting adventure course to date, the Whirlpool Adventure Course highlights the natural beauty of Niagara Parks while delivering on our mission to help people push the boundaries of their comfort zone and discover new levels of self-confidence through active outdoor play.” WildPlay’s Whirlpool Adventure Course marks the opening of the second outdoor Niagara Parks attraction for the organization, following the opening of the popular MistRider to the Falls Zipline attraction, which was opened in July of 2016.
Positioned along the Niagara River Gorge, the Adventure Course is located next to Niagara Parks’ renowned Stanley Thompson designed Whirlpool Golf Course and directly across the Whirlpool basin from Niagara Parks’ first outdoor attraction, the Whirlpool Aero Car, which celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2016. The Whirlpool Adventure Course is a tremendous addition to the variety of outdoor Niagara Parks attractions, activities and sites located along the North Niagara Parkway, which provide guests with stunning panoramic views of the Niagara Gorge and Whirlpool Rapids below.
WildPlay Niagara Falls is a partnership between some of Niagara’s leading hospitality and attraction providers matched with the consulting and technical expertise of a prominent zipline and aerial adventure operator, WildPlay Element Parks. WildPlay has developed five similar locations with a variety of challenge and thrill-based Element experiences in western Canada, and consults on outdoor adventure projects across North America and the Caribbean.
The Whirlpool Adventure Course offers visitors a chance to make their way through a series of aerial obstacles of varying difficulty. Comprising a Kids Course (ages five to 12), a Classic Course and an Extreme Course, the new attraction appeals to a wide demographic of people seeking new ways to experience the world-class destination of Niagara Falls and Niagara Parks.
WildPlay’s Whirlpool Adventure Course will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday beginning with the Victoria Day Long Weekend and daily beginning on June 16 through to September 4.
