- Strong summer results support continued investment in Niagara’s tourism economy
- Attendance increased 13 per cent over 2025
- Double-digit growth in spending from the US and other international markets
- Niagara Parks converted 25 seasonal unionized positions to full-time, year-round jobs
Niagara Falls, ON – A successful 2026 summer season brought increased attendance and revenue to Niagara Parks, supporting a peak workforce of 2,000 employees and creating more full-time, year-round employment in Niagara, while allowing the organization to continue investing in its properties.
As a self-funded agency of the Ontario Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Gaming, Niagara Parks funds its operations through earned revenue with no tax dollars. Strong financial results support a capital budget to address required maintenance across its 56 kilometres and upgrades to its attractions and guest experiences to grow tourism demand, such as the current redevelopment of Journey Behind the Falls.
This further reflects Niagara Parks’ contribution to the local economy as one of Niagara’s largest employers, supporting a peak workforce of 2,000 team members in the summer of 2026, including 430 full-time employees, 710 seasonal employees and 860 students. To meet growing business demand and support year-round employment in the region, Niagara Parks also recently converted 25 seasonal unionized positions to full-time, year-round jobs.
New Experiences Give Visitors More Reasons to Explore Niagara
Niagara Parks’ newest attraction, Niagara Takes Flight, completed its first full year of operations as of August 29, 2026, welcoming over 470,000 guests through the attraction, which was over 100,000 guests more than anticipated in its first year.
Beyond Niagara Takes Flight, Niagara Parks offered a number of new reasons to visit the destination this summer, including at the Butterfly Conservatory, which celebrated its 30th anniversary with the opening of a brand-new exhibit, the Pollinator Playground. Highlights of the new exhibit include the Live Sketchbook, where guests can colour their own pollinator creations before they come to life in a massive digital forest and Puzzle Pond, which invites children to build their own creatures using simple geometric shapes. Niagara Parks was proud to partner with the Shaw Festival to offer the “Short History of Niagara” production at the Botanical Gardens through July and August.
Guests at White Water Walk also enjoyed new perspectives of the Niagara Gorge following a renovation of the lower viewing platform. The enhancement provides additional vantage points overlooking the Niagara River’s powerful rapids, while a new north exit helps reduce congestion and improve visitor flow during peak periods.
The Niagara Parks Power Station marked its fifth anniversary in 2026 with new ways to explore the historic facility, including the Tesla vs. Edison interactive exhibit and an enhanced guided tour. The tour offers first-time public access to previously restricted upper-level areas, including the original control room and restored General Manager’s Office.
A local favourite, Niagara Parks also hosted the Fan Zone by the Falls, a free, festival-style soccer celebration from June 11 to July 19. Set up on the front lawn of Queen Victoria Place, featuring panoramic views of the Falls, the activation offered match screenings, live entertainment and family programming, bringing residents and visitors together to enjoy one of the most scenic outdoor watch parties in North America. The activation helped drive significant growth from several international markets, with spending from these markets more than doubling compared with the previous year.
Between May 1 and September 7, 2026, attendance at Niagara Parks’ attractions increased 13 per cent compared with the same period in 2025.
Welcoming Visitors from Canada and Around the World
From April to August 2026, Niagara Parks saw spending from the domestic market account for 41 per cent of total spending, followed closely by the US market at 40 per cent and international markets representing 19 per cent. For the same time period in the previous year, the US market accounted for only 36 per cent of total spending. Additionally, spending from the US and other top international markets, including the United Kingdom, France and Germany, outpaced the growth of the domestic market in terms of overall spending compared to the prior year, underscoring the importance of Niagara Parks as a global destination.
