Niagara Parks Marina
Redevelopment of Niagara Parks Marina
Niagara Parks is pursuing the redevelopment of its marina property at Miller’s Creek. Through a scoped Request for Proposals (RFP), Niagara Parks will be seeking investment and innovation from the private sector to create a world-class resort and leisure destination that is befitting the marina’s spectacular location along the upper Niagara River in Fort Erie.
About the Marina
Located 22 kilometres south of the Canadian Horseshoe Falls, along the Niagara Parkway in the Town of Fort Erie, the Niagara Parks Marina is the only marina on the Canadian side of the upper Niagara River.
Niagara Parks has owned and operated a marina at this site since the 1960s, offering a number of dock slips and modest amenities.
Location
As the only marina facility on the Canadian side of the upper Niagara River, the Marina has the potential to serve as a new destination for leisure tourism on the south Niagara Parkway, significantly increasing visitation to the area.
Redevelopment Process
At its May 16, 2024 meeting, the Niagara Parks Commission approved a motion to put the previously proposed redevelopment plan into abeyance and pursue a scoped RFP seeking investment and innovation from the private sector to create a world-class resort and leisure destination at the site.
In seeking interest from the private sector for the redevelopment, Niagara Parks will reduce costs associated both with the redevelopment work and ongoing maintenance of the Marina.
Next Steps
Niagara Parks will be issuing a scoped RFP seeking investment and innovation from the private sector to create a world-class resort and leisure destination at the site.
In addition to the redevelopment of the Marina, the RFP will include the potential sale or long-term land lease of the surrounding Niagara Parks lands, which will require provincial approval through an Order-In-Council (OIC).
The Niagara Parks Marina at Miller’s Creek remains a significant priority for Niagara Parks, connecting to its mandate as the environmental and cultural stewards of the Niagara River corridor and role as a demand generator for tourism to the area.
