Fort Erie, ON – Niagara Parks, in partnership with the Niagara Parks Foundation, is pleased to host an all-ages community tree planting event on Saturday, October 26, 2024, bringing together community members in support of a greener future.
This free, family-friendly event, is a wonderful opportunity to enjoy the outdoors, contribute to environmental sustainability and make a meaningful impact in the community. Join Niagara Parks staff for the annual Community Tree Planting Day at Old Fort Erie between 10 a.m. and noon.
The event will take place outdoors and will run rain or shine (except in cases of extreme weather). Participants are encouraged to dress appropriately for the weather. Register online to attend at niagaraparks.com/treeplantingday.
This local reforestation initiative is an opportunity for residents to take part in Niagara Parks’ commitment to planting 5,000 trees annually as part of its Urban Forestry Management Strategy. The goal is to increase canopy cover to 35% by 2028 throughout the entire 56-kilometre Niagara River corridor. Niagara Parks staff will supply trees, tools, and guidance to ensure participants have everything needed to plant their trees successfully. Note that tools are limited; guests who own shovels are encouraged to bring them.
Community Tree Planting Day is made possible through generous donations to the Niagara Parks Foundation and the Toonies for Trees program, which allows the public to directly support Niagara Parks’ tree planting efforts. Between April and August 2024, this program has raised a record-breaking $35,000.
